The expression "Sobre Las Olas" is originally coming from a well-known mexican song and melody of the XIX century (a valse) 1 .
Sobre las Olas (Over the Waves) was written in the late 1800's by a Otomi Native American composer named Juventino Rosas (1868-1894) 2 .
Unfortunately, very little is known about him as he died at the age of 26 after less than a decade of composing music. The melody was later made popular in the movie The Great Caruso (1951) when Ann Blyth sang the lyrics "When you are in love, it's the loveliest night of the year." "Sobre las Olas" is also the title of two movies, beautifully acted biopics : the first one directed by Miguel Zacarías (1933) and the second one by Ismael Rodríguez (1950) - the first theatrical film made in Mexico in full color.
