English version

The title Sobralasolas! is taken from the novel Finnegans Wake by James Joyce. SOBRALASOLAS! does not have a preestablished scenario, tells no story and is not a documentary. It is rather a place for glossolalies and echolalias, on-the-fly recordings and collected improvisations. SOBRALASOLAS! combines collected and improvised sounds, with the aim of creating a new listening and auditory environment, which is both fictional and real, time-specific and site-specific. The participating artists could be all located at different places around the world, and they improvise from there, orienting themselves only to a jointly developed score and/or to a performance driven by listening and by intuitive playings. Nobody knows what could happen or not.

CONTEXT :

English version

A continuation of the exploratory works of the Sobralasolas! a radio opera of live, streamed and recorded sounds, a collaborative project initiated in 2007 by Jerome Joy for a dynamic group of players. Each episode brings new perspectives around the collaborative ways to work on soundart / radiophonic / electronic music / improvisation both at distance and at near, telematic and direct.
For this third episode / "Mirror works" the group are working around the concept of mirrors. Mirrors are affecting the writing and composing. Episode 3 will are resulting in a mirrored performance where players are interacting and reacting through mirror interfaces according to a score which partly will be improvised, partly reflecting the sounds and texts and harmonics, partly reflecting the physical interfaces of mirrors. The coordinator of episode 3 is Björn Eriksson, one of the players in Sobralasolas team since 2007. Players for episode 3 are: Julien Bayle, Caroline Bouissou, Björn Eriksson, Nathalie Fougeras, Emmanuelle Gibello and Jérôme Joy (with guests : André Éric Letourneau).

Mirror reflecting images to the viewer. Clear images or distorted images depending on the condition of the mirror and the mirrored. The mirror as an interface, a tool for communication with its viewer and its users. Can a mirror reflect the same image to different viewers ? Can a mirror function as a shared object for discovering something not seen otherwise ? Mirrors of sound, language, gestures. How is the interaction between the viewer and the viewed (sometimes and often the same people, but not other viewing possible) The society seen through a mirror perspective ? The private seen through a mirror perspective ? The public seen through a mirror perspective ?
Questions to research :
Why use mirrors ?
Who uses mirrors ?
When is mirrors used ?
Where is mirrors used ?
How is mirrors used ?

And then to reflect about that soundwise, radioart, soundart, experimental music ? To compose something partly improvised, but yet following a protocol. Maybe somehow a bit inspired by Cornelius Cardew scores of The Great Learning... ? Simple but yet strong in the building.
