Part 2: Episode 1 system ?

Commissioned by the SonoR Festival in Nantes (F) on Feb 2007, the first episode of SOBRALASOLAS! was produced by the line-up at this time : Kaffe Matthews, Björn Eriksson, Dinahbird, Caroline B, Gregory Whitehead and Jérôme Joy who directed and 'composed/assembled' the final mix and realisation.

The diagram below describes the operations of remote and local sound recordings made by the team and how the role of the conductor was built starting from exchanges, and has emanated such as a sound collector and the common recipient. The final mix created one sound "narration" among so many other possible, each mixing part drawing a kind of auditory "scene" or chapter. One can recover them in playing the existing indexes on the cd release. The mixage works like a unresolved puzzle or a uncontrolable circus, certainly closer to a labyrinth than a clarification of a "story" subjacent to the composition work. Each listener can find different & various connections between sound events and scenes and can imagine his own story throughout clues, repetitions, spoken parts and what could be recognized as "scenes" analog to real situations. Thus the conductor was more a primary listener and connector, than a demiurge. The systems for collecting sound from each sobralasolaser was completely improvised at time, and each one of us prefered to experiment this space of daydream and lucid drifts than to clarify it explicitly or make it logical on a scenario basis.
